Roots 101
Website User Experience
Internship at Western Kentucky University's student-run Advertising Agency, Imagewest.
I, along with the other interns, were to go through a one week bootcamp. During this boot camp we were assigned a client, split into teams by tasks, and by the end of the week we were to have finished multiple forms of creative content for the client, Roots 101.
During this boot camp I was assigned to the website team with two other interns. We were to design an entirely new website for the client.
Outline, Outline, Outline
After a visit to the museum, and a conversation with the team there, we got an idea of what information was required to be on the website. For example, the staff had mentioned that many visitors had made comments on the difficulty with finding directions to the museum, parking, and information on how to get involved.
Starting with the requirements we made out lists of other information we felt needed to be on the website. We then took our lists and categorized the information.
Once we were able to establish what categories that were needed for the website, we then went on to draw our higher fidelity outlines of what the website would look like.
With as much information that was required to be on the website, we wanted to keep the information simple to access. Utilizing footers on the website to have links to the categories of pages, including a google map to the main page for visitors to interact with, placing buttons along the page to offer multiple opportunities to access information without having to scroll through multiple pages. All these details we pinpointed by doing usability testing.
